 FAQs

What is the ratio of students to teacher in the classroom?

Typically, our classes range in size from 10 to 15 students. This allows for more one-on-one attention from the teacher. Preschool classes have a 1:10 ratio and will not exceed that without an assistant.

Are the teachers certified?

Yes. All of our K-12 teachers are certified through Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and some are certified through the state as well.  All of our K-12 teachers have at least a bachelors degree and are involved with continuing education.

Do the students have to wear uniforms?

The school does have a standardized dress code for kindergarten to 12th grades. Elementary students wear khaki, navy, sand, black, or stone-colored slacks, shorts, or skirts (for girls) and white, burgundy, black, navy blue, or light blue collared shirts. The children can also wear regular or tennis shoes.

Middle and high school students can wear any solid colored polo or oxford style shirt. In addition to khaki style slacks, middle and high school students can wear cargo pants. Girls may wear Capri pants.

For the 2009-2010 year, school starts August 18 and ends May 28.

Is the school associated with any certain church?

No. Faith Christian Academy is a non-denominational school with no affiliation to a single church. Faith Christian includes students and families from a wide range of faith backgrounds is overseen by a board of directors.

Is a particular denomination taught?

No. Faith Christian Academy believes in teaching the Bible and does not veer off into denominational teaching.

Does the school have a cafeteria?

No. Elementary school parents send a snack and lunch with their child each day. The children eat as a class in their room. On Wednesdays, parents can order Subway lunch through the school for a small fee. Sub orders must be turned in by Monday. On Friday, parents can order Domino’s pizza for children for a small fee. Pizza orders are due by Wednesday.

Middle and high school students have the same lunch policy, but they eat together in the multi-purpose room or outside on the picnic tables (weather permitting).

What kind of curriculum do we have?

Faith Christian has established a set of objectives for each of these grades – they have been established by reviewing State SOL documents, various curriculums as well as other sources. We have found that the early grades are best served through the ABeka curriculum that offers a strong phonics basis. We have chosen textbooks that best match our objectives in the various subjects and grades. We use such publishers as ABeka, Bob Jones University Press, Saxon Math, Concordia Publishers, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Prentice Hall, Purposeful Design (ACSI), etc.

Are the students bussed to school?

No. The school does not pick up children. Many of our families do carpool.

Can we come in and observe in a classroom?

Parents are welcome to visit their children at school, although we ask that you call ahead so that we can maintain the daily routines.

Does the school offer scholarships or tuition assistance?

The school offers need-based tuition assistance. Need-based assistance is awarded in July. FCA also provides tuition discount to ministers, ranging from 50 to 75 percent. Applications for both are available in the school offices.
