Liberty University Discount
Over the last six years, Liberty University has offered a 75-percent tuition discount to any student that attends Faith Christian Academy from ninth to 12th grade and graduates. Students must have a 2.75 grade-point average and either a 19 ACT composite score or better, or a SAT score of 900 or better (math and critical reading) to be eligible for the discount. The discount provides tremendous relief to college students facing rising tuition costs. Liberty University continues to expand its course offerings, allowing students to study a wide variety of fields. It continues to maintain a high emphasis on Christian education.

Here’s how the Liberty discount helped
one Faith Christian Academy graduate:
Renea Milam knows good business. She studied it for four years at Liberty University. The most important investment she’s seen is the one her parents made by sending her to Faith Christian Academy. Renea graduated from Faith in 2004 and was eligible for a 75-percent tuition reduction at Liberty University. She began attending Faith Christian in kindergarten. Several years ago, Liberty University agreed to extend a 75-percent tuition reduction to any student that attends Faith Christian from ninth to 12th grade. Renea said it put her ahead because she graduated from college. “I didn’t have to take out any student loans,” said Renea, who received a bachelor’s degree in business management and finance. “I’m starting off fresh with no debt and can move on.” Renea is grateful for the strong academic foundation she received at Faith Christian and the Liberty discount. “Without the 75-percent discount,” Renea said, pausing for a moment, “I don’t even want to think about it.”
Dual-enrollment college courses
College freshmen would love this opportunity. Faith Christian Academy juniors and seniors have the opportunity to take college courses in high school. Last year, eight juniors and seniors took English 111 and English 112, freshmen level college courses, at Central Virginia Community College’s Altavista Branch. The students took English 111 in the fall and 112 in the spring semester. The dual-enrollment courses give the students high school credits. Of even more value, the students receive three transferable, college credit hours for each course, which will give them a head start as college freshmen. “It will give me the experience I need to succeed when I do go to college. It lets me challenge myself,” said 2010 graduate Sarah Compton of the college courses.
Jill Dudley, who also graduated in 2010, agreed. “It better prepares you for college.” For several years, the school has encouraged high school students to enroll in college courses. Over the years, a few students have taken advantage of the college offerings, but last fall the school’s largest group enrolled for early college courses. Several other students are also taking Advanced Placement classes, including history, psychology, and science courses, through Virtual Virginia, an online program offered through the state.
“It is rewarding to see students setting the pace for future college success,” said Administrator Lisa Moore. “These young people will receive a great benefit by taking college courses early.” Moore is pleased to see such a high-percentage of rising juniors and seniors taking the college courses. “They are taking two classes in one year. That’s six hours of college credit that transfers,” she added. The students only drive a few miles to the community college branch three days a week in Altavista. The English classes are held in mid-afternoon after the students have completed their other classes at the school. Students can also take summer or evening classes as well, if approved by the administrator.
