Mr. Bruce Devers - Administrator

A Kentucky native, Mr. Devers studied biology at the University of Louisville and received his master's degree from The College of William and Mary. He taught at Portsmouth Christian and Denbigh Baptist Christian Schools. He served as principal at Richmond Christian School before returning to Portsmouth Christian as principal and administrator. Mr. Devers and his wife, Patricia, have two grown sons and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Lisa Moore – Assistant Administrator

Mrs. Moore begins her 32nd year in Christian education with the first ten years teaching at a Christian school in Maryland before being led to be the Administrator at Faith Christian Academy in 1995.  She was hired to add the high school and lead the school in its first accreditation.  She is now in her 22nd year at FCA stepping into the role of Assistant Administrator/Elementary Principal in 2014.  She earned her bachelors degree in elementary education and psychology from Grace College in Winona Lake, IN and her masters in school counseling from University of Maryland.  She has a passion for Christian education.  She is married to Dale Moore and they live on a farm in Altavista.

Mr. Jason Mauk - Physical Education and Health/Athletic Director

Mr. Mauk is a graduate of Liberty University with a B.S. in Business Administration, Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary with a M.A. in Pastoral Counseling, and Liberty University School of Divinity with a Master of Religious Education.  He is also a graduate of The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science with a degree in Clinical Funeral Science/Technology.  He is a licensed funeral director in Pennsylvania, having served in this capacity for 12 years before he was called to pastoral ministry in 2013.  He moved to the Altavista area in November 2015, where he is the pastor of a small church.  Jason and his wife Jamie have four sons, Jackson, Jacob, Josiah, and Joseph, all students at Faith Christian Academy.

Mrs. Cindy Jamerson - Three-year-old Preschool

Mrs. Jamerson has taught preschool at Faith Christian Academy for eight years and has taught preschool summer camps for several years.  She and husband, Paul, have had two sons, Danny and Paul, graduate from Faith Christian.

Mrs. Jacke Smith - Four-year-old Preschool - 3 day/Resource

Mrs. Smith is from Cincinnati, Ohio.  She has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Tennessee Temple and has been teaching at FCA for 21 years. She and her husband, Rick, live in the Timberlake area of Lynchburg and enjoy kayaking and spending time with their 17 grandchildren.  For her, the best part of teaching is helping children learn not only facts, but also Godly character.

Mrs. Cecelia Franklin – Four-year-old Preschool - 5 day

Mrs. Franklin graduated from Lynchburg College in 1998 with a B.A. in Early Childhood Development.  For the past 17 years, she has worked for Pittsylvania County Schools teaching at Gretna Elementary, where she taught several different grades.  Her favorite scripture to live by is Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths."  She and her husband have three grown children, Haley, Ethan, and Orie, and six grandchildren, Tristan, Olivia, Natalie, Caleb, Eben, and Emilie.  In her free time, she enjoys arts and crafts, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Janice Shaffer – Kindergarten

Mrs. Shaffer is beginning her 6th year at Faith Christian Academy as a kindergarten teacher.  She earned her M.Ed. in elementary education from Liberty University and earned her bachelor's degree from Geneva College in PA.  She has taught and directed preschools and daycares.  Mrs. Shaffer and husband Barry, have two grown children and five grandchildren.  Mrs. Shaffer enjoys helping the students discover the joy of reading and math.  In her spare time she enjoys painting and photography.

Mrs. Allison Knaus– First Grade

Mrs. Knaus has a B.S. in general studies with a teacher certification from Liberty University.  She has taught Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and Pre-school before coming to Faith Christian Academy to teach 1st grade.  She and her husband Sam have four children, Sam, Caleb, Abby, and Noemi.

Mrs. Cheryl Hannam – Second Grade

Mrs. Hannam has a B.S. in Family Life Sciences from Mansfield University with a minor in Child Development.  Returning to Liberty University, she received an endorsement in Elementary Education and considerable work towards a Masters Degree.  Her background has been in Classical Christian Education.  Mrs. Hannam has taught many years Pre-K thru Grade 3, Latin, and Home Economics.  Her passion for children is a saving knowledge of Christ and to be firmly grounded in their belief, as they carry forth the Great Commission to know and make Him known.  She has recently been pursuing a nursing degree and has a great respect for how God designed our bodies and what it means to be the Body of Christ.

Mrs. Kim Willard – Third Grade

Mrs. Willard is in her 15th year at FCA and has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Lee University in Cleveland, TN.  She has taught a range of elementary classes from preschool through fifth, but loves teaching the third grade.  She enjoys teaching in a Christian school because of her freedom to teach children that Jesus loves them.  Besides spending time with her husband, David, she enjoys reading and bird watching.  Her husband is the pastor of Valley View Church of God in Altavista and works in the hospital doing echocardiograms.

Mrs. Leigh Ann Wayne - Fourth Grade

Mrs. Wayne hails from the Ohio State University where she earned her elementary education degree in 1992.  She then double majored at Liberty University School of Divinity getting her MA in religion as well as her MRS degree after meeting Mr. Wayne there.  She taught 2nd grade in Korea before coming to FCA to teach 5th grade from 1994-96.  The Waynes then spent three years in Korea teaching English at a university in Seoul where their first child was born.  For the next 16 years, Mrs. Wayne homeschooled at Wayne Acres Grammar School (WAGS) in Ohio.  Mrs Wayne is thrilled to be back at FCA after the family relocation to VA, this time teaching 4th grade.  She and her husband have four children - Nathan, Caroline, Andrew, and John Mark.

Mrs. Cindy Irby – Fifth Grade

Mrs. Cindy Irby, a native of Tennessee, begins her 13th year at FCA.  She graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from Liberty University and has taught for 26 years all in third through sixth grades.  She and husband, Doug, have two children. Lexi and Collin, both honor graduates of FCA, and are now students at Liberty University.  Her favorite part about teaching is being able to explain new concepts to the students, and knowing that they understand by the look in their eyes.  When Mrs. Irby is not involved in planning events for the high school students' activities, she enjoys a good book.

Miss Jenny Conner – Middle and High School History

The 2015-2016 school year was Miss Conner's first year teaching at Faith Christian Academy.  Miss Conner, a Georgia native, received her bachelor's degree in History, Technology, and Society from the Georgia Institute of Technology and completed her Masters of Teaching in Secondary Social Studies Education at Georgia State University.  Miss Conner is also coaching middle school volleyball.  She loves to make connections in history from the past to current events today and see students make these connections as well.  She enjoys playing sports, baking, and traveling as much as possible.

Miss Meagan Edwards - Middle School English

Miss Edwards graduated from Liberty University in 2014 with a B.A. in English.  While completing her undergrad, she competed on Liberty's debate team.  Upon graduating, she transitioned to being a debate coach for the team at Liberty.  Coaching debate allows her to teach communication and research skills that she is excited to pass on to middle school students at FCA.  Miss Edwards is currently working on completing her Masters in the Art of Teaching through Liberty University.  In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and trying new recipes.

Miss Tracey Fox - Middle School Math/Anatomy/Consumer Math

Miss Fox received her master's degree in education from Liberty University. She has taught English as a second language in Korea and tutored at-risk kids through the American Red Cross' after-school program. She also teaches CPR and First Aid certification courses to students.

Miss Rachel Hodges - High School English

Miss Hodges is originally from Pennsylvania and graduated from Clarks Summit University with a bachelor of science in English Education and M.Ed in Curriculum.  She also has a TESOL certification through the University of Southern Florida.  Miss Hodges also taught Academic Writing and assisted with various literature classes at CSU while completing her graduate assistantship there.  She enjoys working with young people because of their honesty and excitement about life, and she is especially looking forward to working at a Christian school because of the positive influence her Christian school had on her life growing up.  For fun, she enjoys thrift shopping, running outdoors, and traveling to new places.  She also loves coffee and feels it pairs excellently with a good book or deep conversation.

Mr. Eddie McDonald – Middle and High School Bible

Mr. McDonald (AKA “Mr. Mac”) has taught at Faith Christian since 2004. A Liberty University graduate with a B.S. in English and a Minor in Vocal Performance, he also serves as minister at First Southern Baptist Church in Hurt and is on the leadership team for The Gathering. In addition to teaching Bible, Mr. Mac directs the FCA Secondary Choir, Praise Band, and is the Secondary Chapel Coordinator.  He and his wife, Rachel, have three children, Anna, Katie, and Liam.

Mrs. Pam Miles – Middle and High School Science

Mrs. Miles has taught full time at FCA for seven years and part-time (teaching enrichment and tutoring) for four years.  She enjoys teaching students that science never contradicts the Word of God.  She received her bachelors degree in medical technology from East Tennessee State University.  She then worked at Community Hospital in Roanoke, VA as a medical technologist.  After marrying and having children, the Lord led her to homeschool both of her daughters.  She then returned to school and earned a masters degree in teaching from Liberty University.  Mrs. Miles and her husband, Barry, live on Safehaven farm where they enjoy raising beef cattle, goats, rabbits, chickens, ducks, guineas, and making soaps, lotion bars, lip balms, and bug repellants using all natural ingredients.  Mrs. Miles has two married daughters and two grandchildren.

Mr. Nathan Parr – High School Math

Mr. Parr, who grew up in Bedford, double-majored in computer science and psychology at Hampden-Sydney College. He served as vice president of InterVarsity, a Christian college ministry, and participated in math and soccer clubs. Mr. Parr, who coaches soccer and basketball, teaches high school math courses.  He and his wife Rachel reside in Lynchburg.

Mrs. Ruth Anne Adams – Art/Music/Technology

Mrs. Adams has a bachelors degree in family and consumer science from Liberty University. She taught preschool at Faith Christian for one year and has substituted for several years. She and husband, Alan, have three children, Allison, Jason, and Benjamin.

Mrs. Amaris Scruggs - Spanish

Mrs. Scruggs is a California, born and raised Latina with Guatemalan & German heritage.  In 2015, she received her Bachelors in Business from a private Christian institution - Azusa Pacific University.  It was during her undergraduate career that she responded to God's call on her life in serving and working with young people.  After working as program Co-Director of Urban Promise Charlotte for 9 months, Amaris moved to Virginia as a result of marrying her best friend, Charlie whom she met through a ministry opportunity in California years back.  She serves alongside him as State Youth Directors for the Church of God of Prophecy Virginia and shares an interest in seeing students acquire and learn Spanish as a second language in order to become global thinkers.

Mrs. Rachel Hoagland - Librarian

This will be Mrs. Hoagland's second year at FCA, but her first year as librarian.  As books and teaching are her passion, she is very excited for this school year.  She has a bachelor's degree in teaching English as a Second Language from Liberty University and has been tutoring English privately for eight years.  Before Liberty, she attended Word of Life Bible Institute in New York where she met her husband, Peter.  One of her favorite verses is Phil 3:13-14: "Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

Mrs. Debbie Dalton - Administrative Assistant

Mrs. Dalton has served as Administrative Assistant at FCA for 24 years.  She studied at CVCC and earned an LPN degree from South Boston Regional School of Nursing.  She and her husband, Mark have two grown children and two grandchildren.  Hobbies include gardening and beekeeping with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Jennifer Kelly - Administrative Assistant

Mrs. Kelly has served as an Administrative Assistant in the secondary office for 10 years.  She enjoys spending time interacting with the students on a daily basis and especially enjoys attending sporting events and cheering on the FCA Lions!  Her hobbies include watching her son play basketball, walking, and spending time with family and friends.  One of her favorite Bible verses is Isaiah 41:10 - "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."  She and her husband of 22 years, Jerry, have a son, Russ who graduated from FCA in 2016.

Mrs. Linda Laney - Bookkeeper/Office Manager

This will be the 18th year Mrs. Laney has been in the office as the Bookkeeper for FCA.  She graduated from Roanoke Memorial Hospital - School of Nursing as a RN.  She also received her BS in Commerce and Social Studies from LaSalle Extension University.  She has three grown children - Jim Jr., Jennifer, and Jodi who attended FCA when the doors first opened in 1989.  She has 7 grandchildren.  She enjoys being a part of the FCA family where she sees God Working in the hearts of the faculty and students as well as His gracious provisions for FCA.
