Mr. Bruce Devers - Administrator

A Kentucky native, Mr. Devers studied biology at the University of Louisville and received his master's degree from The College of William and Mary. He taught at Portsmouth Christian and Denbigh Baptist Christian Schools. He served as principal at Richmond Christian School before returning to Portsmouth Christian as principal and administrator. He loves Southern Gospel music, especially The Florida Boys and his favorite comedy film is from 1946, Abbott & Costello star in "The Time of Their Lives". Mr. Devers says, "I could live on Hostess orange cupcakes and Mountain Dew...well, until it killed me, but I'd die & go to Heaven a happy man!" He and his wife, Pat, have two grown sons and four grandchildren. 

Mrs. Lisa Moore – Assistant Administrator

Mrs. Moore begins her 33rd year in Christian education with the first ten years teaching at a Christian school in Maryland before being led to be the Administrator at Faith Christian Academy in 1995.  She was hired to add the high school and lead the school in its first accreditation.  She is now in her 23rd year at FCA stepping into the role of Assistant Administrator/Elementary Principal in 2014.  She earned her bachelors degree in elementary education and psychology from Grace College in Winona Lake, IN and her masters in school counseling from University of Maryland.  She has a passion for Christian education.  She is married to Dale Moore and they live on a farm in Altavista.

Mrs. Julia Neiderer - Physical Education and Health/Athletic Director

Mrs. Neiderer, recently moved from Burlington, NC, to Lynchburg after getting married to her husband, Drew, in early 2017. She received her B.S. in Health & Phys. Ed in 2013 from Wingate University. Physical fitness has always been an important aspect to her life growing up as a gymnast & cheerleader. While cheering in college, she also invested time in the Campus Outreach Ministry. This developed a deep love in her for God, as well as a desire for other young people to know Him. The last three years since college, she served as the Women's Coordinator for Campus Outreach at Elon University. Mrs. Neiderer loves Oreos & her favorite Disney movie is Cinderella. She recently spent time in South Africa and Rome & she hopes to do a lot more traveling in the future. Mrs. Neiderer is enthustiastic to combine her love for the Lord and fitness as begins her teaching career here at FCA.

Mrs. Cindy Jamerson - Three-year-old Preschool

This will be Mrs. Jamerson's 10th year teaching our preschool at Faith Christian Academy.  She has also taught our preschool summer camps for several years.  She enjoys Contemporary Christian music and flower gardening.  Mrs. Jamerson and her husband, Paul, have two sons, Danny and Paul.  Both sons are graduates from FCA.  Her favorite scripture verse for this year is Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."

Mrs. Cecelia Franklin – Four-year-old Preschool - 5 day

Mrs. Franklin is a graduate of Lynchburg College with a B.A. in Early Childhood Development.  Her favorite passage of scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths."  Cecelia's favorite song is "10,000 Reasons" by Matt Redman.  She and her husband have three grown children and six grandchildren.  In her free time, Mrs. Franklin enjoys crafts and spending time with her family and playing with her dog, Dottie.

Mrs. Janice Shaffer – Kindergarten

Mrs. Shaffer is beginning her 7th year at Faith Christian Academy as our kindergarten teacher.  She earned her M.Ed. in elementary education from Liberty University and earned her bachelor's degree from Geneva College in PA.  She has taught and directed in preschools and daycares.  Mrs. Shaffer loves helping her students discover the joy of reading. Her favorite Christian authors are Max Lucado & Terri Blackstock & her favorite movie is "Ever After".  Aside from reading, in her spare time she also enjoys painting, knitting, sewing & photography. She and her husband, Barry, have two grown children and five grandchildren. Her favorite verse for this year is Isaiah 40:31.

Mrs. Shirley Fero – First Grade

A California native, Mrs. Fero received her bachelor's from Liberty University where she met her husband, Barry, while they travelled on a drama team.  She has an ACSI credential and has taught at Liberty Christian Academy, Bethany Christian Academy, Vineyard Chirstian School, and Liberty Christian School in Southern California for a combined total of twenty-three years.  In her spare time she enjoys reading and spending time with family.  Her favorite book is "Little Women".  Her favorite verse is Isaiah 40:31 and her song of choice would be "I Can Only Imagine".  Mrs. Fero and her husband, Barry, have owned many different pets but she is especially fond of cats.  Mr. & Mrs. Fero have a grown son who is an ordained pastor and daughter who is an elementary teacher.

Mrs. Cheryl Hannam – Second Grade

Mrs. Hannam has a B.S. in Family Life Sciences from Mansfield University with a minor in Child Development.  Returning to Liberty University, she received an endorsement in Elementary Education and considerable work towards a Masters Degree.  Her background has been in Classical Christian Education.  Mrs. Hannam has taught many years Pre-K through Grade 3, Latin, and Home Economics.  Her passion for children is a saving knowledge of Christ and to be firmly grounded in their belief, as they carry forth the Great Commission to know and make Him known.  She has recently been pursuing a nursing degree and has a great respect for how God designed our bodies and what it means to be the Body of Christ.  Her hobbies include horseback riding & training horses, sewing, music, art & walking. Her favorite verse is Psalms 90:16-17 ESV.

Mrs. Kim Willard – Third/Fourth Grade

Mrs. Willard is in her 16th year at FCA and has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Lee University in Cleveland, TN.  She has taught a range of elementary classes from preschool through fifth.  She enjoys teaching in a Christian school because of her freedom to teach children that Jesus loves them.  Besides spending time with her husband, David, she enjoys reading and bird watching.  Mr. Willard is the pastor of Valley View Church of God in Altavista and also works in the hospital doing echocardiograms. Mrs. Willard's favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11.

Mrs. Cindy Irby – Fifth Grade

Mrs. Cindy Irby, a native of Tennessee, begins her 14th year at FCA.  She graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from Liberty University and has taught for 27 years all in third through sixth grades.  She and her husband, Doug, have two children. Lexi and Collin, both honor graduates of FCA, and are now students at Liberty University.  Her favorite part about teaching is being able to explain new concepts to the students, and knowing that they understand by the look in their eyes.  When Mrs. Irby is not involved in planning events for the high school students' activities, she enjoys reading Christian Fiction.  Her favorite book is Sophie's Heart by Lori Wick. She also likes to collect stuffed pets, especially lions, for her classroom. Go Lions!!  Mrs. Irby's favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11 and she loves the song, "Amazing Grace" by the group, Point of Grace.

Miss Jenny Conner – Middle and High School History

This will be Miss Conner's 3rd year teaching at FCA. She is a Georgia native and received her bachelor's degree in History, Technology & Society from the Georgia Institute of Technology and completed her Masters of Teaching in Secondary Social Studies Eductaion at Georgia State University. Miss Conner loves to make connections in history from the past to current events today and see the students make these connections as well.  Aside from teaching our Secondary History, Miss Conner is also our Varsity Volleyball Coach.  She enjoys playing sports, baking, and traveling as much as possible. Her favorite movie series is the "Lord of the Rings" Trilogy and her favorite verse is Luke 9:23, "Then he said to them all: 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me'."

Mr. Barry Fero - MS & HS Bible / Earth Science (9th&10th)

A New York native, Mr. Fero received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Liberty University where he met his wife, Shirley, while they travelled on a drama team.  He taught at Liberty Christian Academy, Bethany Christian Academy, Pacific Baptist College, and Liberty Christian School in Southern California.  While teaching, he was also the Pastor of Grace Baptist Church for over twenty-five years.  Mr. Fero's hobbies include hunting, fishing, and collecting old books.  His favorite book is the Bible and his favorite scripture is Micah 6:8.  His favorite movie is "Saving Private Ryan" and he enjoys potato chips and Reese's Cups as his favorite snack.  He and his wife enjoy animals and at one time they owned 4 dogs, 4 cats, 1 bird, 8 turtles, 1 tortoise and 20 fish!  Mr. & Mrs. Fero have a grown son who is an ordained pastor and daughter who is an elementary teacher. 

Miss Tracey Fox - Middle School Math/Anatomy/Consumer Math

Miss Fox came from Pennsylvania by way of Word of Life Bible Institute, in New York, to study at Liberty University.  There she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees.  This will be Miss Fox's 8th year at Faith Christian Academy and she is looking forward to seeing what God will do this school year!  Miss Fox loves watching ice hockey and drinking copious amounts of black coffee.  She has been a volunteer in EMS for 16 years.  One of her favorite passages of scripture is Matthew 6, especially verse 33, because it says when we make pursuing God our priority, everything else falls into place.  Matthew 6:33 says: "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Ms. Lori Metzger – High School Math

This is Ms. Metzger's first year at FCA.  A double major in Math and Spanish opened doors for her to teach both subjects in public schools, homeschool co-ops, parochial, and private Christian schools.  In her spare time, she enjoys playing card or board games, taking road trips and reading.  Her favorite movie is a well-known classic, "The Princess Bride" and her favorite snack is fruit or something salty & crunchy.  Ms. Metzger grew up near the beach, so she looks forward to the change of scenery as she begins this phase of her life in the beautiful mountains of Central Virginia and teaching at Faith Christian Academy.

Mrs. Jennifer Prince - MS & HS Science Teacher

Mrs. Prince joins us for her first year at Faith Christian. She is a 1994 graduate of LU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, after which she taught HS Science at a Christian school for 4 yrs untill she had her first baby in 1999. She and her husband, Earl, now have 3 teenagers, and she finds this the perfect time for her to begin part-time teaching here at FCA. She enjoys writing, vintage things and experiencing all things local whether it be history, supporting neighborhood shops and locally owned restaurants. Fostering kittens is also a fun pastime for her family and their summers are filled with bottle feeding and 'kitty cuteness' in their 1922 historic home near downtown Lynchburg. Mrs. Prince is looking forward to teaching her students along with seeing how God will impact their lives and hers through this first year.

Mrs. Amaris Scruggs - Spanish/Middle School English

Mrs. Scruggs is a Californian, born and raised Latina with Guatemalan & German heritage.  In 2015, she received her Bachelors in Business from a private Christian institution - Azusa Pacific University.  She is pursuing her Masters in Teaching through Liberty University this fall.  She has been wonderfully married for a little over a year. One Bible verse that she centers her life around is Mark 12:30-31.  During her free time she enjoys reading a novel, cooking Spanish dishes with her husband, discovering new coffee shops, going out for a run, and doing some fun online shopping.

Mrs. Sharon Witt - High School English

Mrs. Witt was raised in Beford County by Christian parents.  She graduated from Liberty University with a bachelor's degree in English Education and a minor in Journalism.  After spending several years homeschooling her children and teaching in public and private schools, Mrs. Witt returned to school as a full-time student and earned a master's degree in English from Southern New Hampshire University.  She began to teach high school English & Creative Writing courses online.  Mrs. Witt's husband is a pastor, and they have a grown son and daughter. Her favorite verse is Isaiah 40:31.  In her spare time, Mrs. Witt enjoys visiting historical sites, reading classic novels, cooking Southern food, and walking with her lively Jack Russell terrier, Hadassah.

Mrs. Ruth Anne Adams – Art/Music/Technology

Mrs. Adams is celebrating her 10th year of teaching here at Faith Christian Academy. She received her bachelor's degree from Liberty University in 2005. Her and her husband, Alan, have three children. Their daughter, Allison, is 26 years old & attended FCA from first grade through to graduation in 2008. Their son, Jason, 21, attended Faith Christian Academy from K-3 to 12th grade and graduated in 2014. Their youngest son, Benjamin, started attending FCA in K-4. He is now 16 years old and will be a junior this year. Mrs. Adams loves to hear her students "sing for Jesus" and her favorite show is "I Love Lucy"!

Mrs. Rachel Hoagland - Librarian/Drama Teacher

This will be Mrs. Hoagland's 2nd year as librarian, but her 1st year as drama teacher. Books and teaching are her passion, but she can often be seen lugging around a guitar, and she is rarely spotted without a cup of coffee. Her favorite topic of conversation is anything regarding foreign cultures. She has a BA in TESL from Liberty University and has been tutoring international students (including some from FCA) privately for eight years. Before LU, she attended Word of Life Bible Institute in New York where she met the love of her life, Peter. One of her favorite verses is Phil 3:13-14: "Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

Mr. Eddie McDonald – High School Choir Director

Mr. McDonald (AKA “Mr. Mac”) has taught at FCA since 2004. He is a Liberty University graduate with a B.S. in English and a Minor in Vocal Performance. Mr. Mac serves as Music Pastor at The Tabernacle in Danville. For the past 17 years, Mr. Mac has been leading praise & worship and has written, orchestrated, and arranged music, as well as choral pieces for FCA's choir which have been sung for various performances, including graduation & festival competition.  If you ask Mr. Mac what his favorite song is, you may get a list! He appreicates all musical genres and views them as platforms for making the gospel known. His reading list is just as eclectic. In addition, Mr. Mac enjoys travelling, calligraphy, and running. He loves hanging out with his family and delights in meeting new people and helping them know and grow in Christ.  He and his wife, Rachel, have three children: Anna, Katie and Liam.

Mrs. Angela Carlberg - Administrative Assistant, High School Office

This will be Mrs. Carlberg's 1st year working at FCA but she has been a part of the Faith "family" since her son, Andrew, was enrolled to FCA from homeschooling in 2013 as a 6th grader.  Before homeschooling, she was employed as Admin. Assistant for a financial advising company in Lynchburg.  She and her husband, Bob, have been married for 20 years and they currently reside in Pittsylvania County near Leesville Lake.  In her spare time, she enjoys walking, jogging, baking, reading and studying nutrition and her favorite vacation spot has always been The Outer Banks.  Angela is very excited to be a part of all that God has in store for the students, facutly & families of Faith Christian Academy this year!  A passage of scripture that she always keep close at hand is Psalms 46 (ESV).

Mrs. Debbie Dalton - Administrative Assistant, Elementary Office

Mrs. Dalton studied at CVCC and earned her LPN degree from South Boston Regional School of Nursing. She has served as Administrative Assistant at FCA for 25 years but has been part of Faith Christian since the 1990's when her children attended here.  Her hobbies include gardening and beekeeping with her husband, Mark, and spending time with their three grandchildren.  Their favorite vacation spot is the Outer Banks in North Carolina.   Mrs. Dalton's favorite passage of scripture is Psalms 91, especially verses 1-2 that say, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of th Almighty. I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust".  She also enjoys reading in her spare time and one of her favorite authors is Priscilla Shirer.  She was very inspired by Priscilla's recent movie, "War Room"

Mrs. Linda Laney - Bookkeeper/Office Manager

This will be the 19th year Mrs. Laney has been in the office as the Bookkeeper for FCA.  She graduated from Roanoke Memorial Hospital - School of Nursing as a RN.  She also received her BS in Commerce and Social Studies from LaSalle Extension University.  She has three grown children - Jim Jr., Jennifer, and Jodi who attended FCA when the doors first opened in 1989.  She has 7 grandchildren.  She enjoys being a part of the FCA family where she sees God Working in the hearts of the faculty and students as well as His gracious provisions for FCA.
