On Wednesday, October 15, Faith Christian Academy had a Touch A Truck event for their students. The students enjoyed the fire trucks, big trucks, tractors, police cars, emergency vehicles, and equipment. They could climb on them and ask questions, and honk the horns, so it was a day of excitement for everyone. There were lots of smiles.
Thanks to Michael Dillard with VDOT who came up with the idea. His daughter is a student at FCA and he wanted to give the students a chance to see the cool equipment and tools used related to jobs in the community. He wants to thank FCA for giving the kids a fun day.
Bryan Daniel, Chief of Hurt Volunteer Fire Department said, “The kids were loving it, the sirens were the kids’ favorite." He said an event like this may spark the interest when they get older to be firefighters.
Shiquita Webb and Matt Bradner with Pittsylvania County Public Safety were glad to be a part of this special day for the students. They explained to the students how the equipment on the ambulance worked and answered questions. Bradner said it is good to let the young students see the vehicles, and maybe some future EMT's.
Olivia Brown, a 4th grader, really enjoyed the event. Her favorites were the mower, the flat truck, rescue vehicle, and the police car.
Steele Orendorf, a 5th grader, liked the fire truck. He wants to thank the school for doing this.
Elyse Newcomb, a 3rd grader, likes all of it and thanks to all the businesses for taking the time to come show their equipment.
Gabe Thompson, a 5th grader, liked the fire trucks and rescue vehicles. His dad works for the HVFD. He wants to thank all the businesses for spending their morning with FCA.
Faith Christian Academy wants to thank the Virginia Department of Transportation, Crystal Bay Pools, Hurt Volunteer Fire Department, Hurt Police Department, Town of Altavista, Pittsylvania County Public Safety, and Ewe Graze, LLC.
