After starting school this past week FCA Lady Lions opened their volleyball season at home on Friday night, August 15, against Halifax Christian School Mustangs. FCA middle school team won both games 25 to 3 and 25 to 10. Varsity won all three games 28 to 8, 25 to 7, and 25 to 11.
FCA middle school is coached by Alexis Bell (Class of 2013) and Asst. Coach is Keri Weddle. Bell said the girls played an excellent match to kick off the season. They came together as a team and focused on communication and strategy while staying consistent throughout each set. “This season, their goal is to focus on individual growth and team unity, while strengthening their skills on the court,” she says.
In the first game, 8th grader, #7 Ivie Saunders, delivered an impressive 20 consecutive serves, including 9 aces. In the second game, #7 Izzy Moore followed up with 9 straight serves and 6 aces. #4 Alexa Foster and #11 Elloree Keesee also had strong performances, each contributing 6 consecutive serves. It was a fantastic way to wrap up the first week of school!
Each player contributed to this first game of the season. #3 Ivie Saunders stood out with her powerful serves and excellent movement across the court, setting a strong tone for the team.
The FCA Varsity Lady Lions are coached by Larita Orendorf and Asst. Coach is Leo Cabrera.
The team did an excellent job! The coach was very pleased with their first game.
The coaches’ expectations and goals for the team this season are to develop players with consistent offensive and defensive skills. Coach Orendorf says she expects less than 10% errors in serving. As they continue into the season, she is anticipating more victories than last season and is excited to see the girls grow into well-seasoned players. She was very pleased with how the girls played together in their first match and the energy that they displayed throughout the games. She is looking forward to a great season, and is expecting each player to push themselves hard for the wins.
The whole team worked and played hard for this win: #7 Reese Ayers received 5 aces during her 15 straight serves. #13 Zoey Johns had 5 attacks for the night with 3 kills.
